Fantasía
Fantasía, begun in 2014, is an ongoing collection of more than 1,500 knockoff figurines gathered from popular markets. These imperfect copies of familiar characters bear distortions that transform the ideals they were designed to represent, particularly princesses and other mass-produced prototypes of beauty and perfection. Their irregularities become sources of humor, tenderness, and fabulation, revealing the histories of their production, circulation, and use.
The figurines have been photographed, animated, drawn, reproduced, and copied again, allowing objects that are already copies to continually assume new forms. Together, these iterations compose Museo de Fantasía, an expanding archive where imitation, imperfection, memory, and time reshape familiar cultural icons.
